Saint-Fargeau

A medieval city

Ten centuries of history in the heart of the Puisaye region ! The castle, the church, the belfry, houses with wood sides, wash houses ... So many things to discover !

Built on a feudal mound, then fortified in the XIIth century, the medieval city of Saint-Fargeau has preserved the traces of its history, from the half-timbered houses to the belfry to the XIIIth century church. Near the town, the Bourdon reservoir lake is an ideal spot for fun and relaxation.

Marked by such illustrious names as Joan of Arc or Jacques Cœur, Saint-Fargeau owes its reputation to Marie Louise d'Orléans – known as "la Grande Mademoiselle" (“the Grand Young Lady”) – who was exiled there by her cousin Louis XIV, king of France, and who gave new life to the castle. Each summer, in the evenings, an epic production that will take your breath away, acted out by 600 volunteers, brings the history of this village back to life.
